Mitosis

This process is essential in producing cells that contain exactly identical nuclei.

In multicellular organisms it is used in growth new cells make tissues grow, also when tissues are damaged or diseased new cells lead to tissue repair. During the embryonic development an organism develops from the single zygote cell by millions of cells divisions by mitosis.

The key stages and events that lead to the development of two new cells with identical nuclei are explained below.

During the S (Synthesis) stage of interphase, all of the nuclear DNA was completely replicated.

This means that there are two complete copies of the cells nuclear DNA.
